pinkified xbox 360 controller

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

As far as custom controller go, this particular project isn’t loud (though yeah, bright), it isn’t overdone, and it isn’t sparkling with a bank of flashing lights… and that’s probably why the final effect is so entirely sleek and professional.

Flickr user 4apples posted pictures of this controller project, stating that he completed this (sans the LEDs that he’ll add later) as a gift for his girlfriend, who wanted a “special” controller. Congratulations, unnamed girl. Your man is thoughtful and talented.

But as impressive as the finished project is, I really like this picture of the painted pieces. So many of the custom paint jobs I’ve seen end up looking a little sloppy, or the paint just isn’t quite right. Here, you can really see how nice each individually painted piece looks.

I’ve seen mods for sale that don’t look this nice. Just sayin’.

sparkly usb bracelet stores memories on your wrist

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Here’s a girly-girl accessory that looks much more like a swanky piece of jewelry than a storage device for your computer.

usb_sparkly_bracelet

But beneath the surface of this sparkly bejeweled bracelet is a hidden USB flash drive. The connector hinges neatly out of the side of the bracelet when you’re ready to jack it into your computer.

And while all those jewels might make it look expensive, it’s actually just cheap costume jewelry fashioned from stainless steel (or possibly aluminum) and rhinestones.

The 2GB version is available from Chinagrabber for just $22.99 (USD), while you can grab the 8GB model from Brando for $33 bucks.

nes controller purse for 8-bit fashionistas

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

Here’s a fun accessory for you retro gamer girls out there.

nes_8bit_purse

This old school NES controller purse was handcrafted by artist inhope. The bag was stitched together from pieces of handcut vinyl, and is a dead ringer for the iconic grey, black and red 8-bit controller.

nes_controller_purse_closeup

Measuring in at 14-inches wide by 8-inches high, you might be able to cram in an original Nintendo Entertainment System, but you probably couldn’t keep you lipstick and cell phone in there too. On the other hand, you could definitely tote around your DS and a bunch of gameswith plenty of room to spare. Or if you’re feeling really nostalgic, you could always carry an FC Mobile handheld if you prefer something a little more apropos.

You can find the NES controller purse amongst many other cool handmade items (including a bracelet that looks like bacon and eggs) over at inhope’s Etsy shop.

now you wear it, now you don’t: girly usb drive necklace

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

Okay, ladies, if you’re looking to hide your data in the form of a giant, shiny pendant (that no one would ever steal, right? right?), then you’re going to want to check this out. After all, it’s shiny, and a necklace, and did I mention it’s shiny?

usb crystal necklace rose portable drive

Okay, I mock, but it’s actually not unattractive as necklaces go, and geek girls with a sense of feminine style certainly can’t find much to mock in the 8GB of space available in this wearable drive. Also? Color choices! The necklace is available in black or red if you happen to need more color in your life (along with portable storage).

You might be wondering just where, exactly, this pendant plugs in. Check it out–hidden connections. Nice touch!

The necklaces are available for $37 a piece from Hong Kong retailer Brando. Now if only there was a package deal for all three….

Ladies: Disguise Your Gaming Gear as Makeup

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

In a perfect world, there wouldn’t be any female gamers, but instead, just gamers. Instead, sadly, we live in this world, and someone thinks girl gamers feel the need to disguise their gear as clutch bags and makeup. That’s the knee-jerk reaction for most geek chicks, anyway.

But manufacturer Thrustmaster just may know what they’re doing after all: the product page indicates the DS Silver Pack is targeted at younger gamers. And while we could argue about whether or not young girls should feel like they have to hide their gaming, the point is that some girls just might want to store their DS cartridges in a case that looks like it should hold eyeshadow instead.

For those who like things a little less shiny, Thrustmaster has other goodies, like their urban bag, complete with a few space invaders.

See? And you thought this was going to be all high-handed. Anything that gets most of your gaming gear in one place gets my vote, even if it pink. The full Silver Pack set, with all the makeup-style cases, runs $35, but if you’re only in the market for a shiny bag with the DS logo, that can be had for $16. The brown bag runs about $14 at various online retailers.

nerd out your neckline with computer key jewelry

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

These cool necklaces feature a recycled computer key fused to a hand-cut glass tile. The perfect gift for the geeky girl in your life!

These beauts are handmade by Capitola Girl Jewelry. She sells them on Etsy for 29 bucks. They come on an 18 inch chain with a silver clasp. She promises to center the key perfectly for your ultimate satisfaction.

The display ones are all in the letter B, but she’ll do some alternate letters in black or gray if she has them. Now to see if she has a K lying around… or even better, ctrl. Why? I don’t know, it just seems kind of cool.

Virtual Mirror makes trying on clothes a snap

Friday, August 29th, 2008

I may be the only girl in the world that doesn’t particularly love trying on clothes. Sure, I like getting new threads but having to go through that process is both tedious and time consuming. But now, the Virtual Mirror promises to make trying on clothes a breeze, and you don’t even have to take off your jacket.

magic mirror 360x400

The Virtual Mirror can help you decide what clothes will look best on you quickly. It works by overlaying an image of your clothing of choice over your picture. There are some software programs out there that already perform this task, but the idea here is to help you make decisions while actually out and about.

The only problem is that the technology has not been perfected to the point yet where the overlaid clothing image looks realistic over your image. But given a little time, I think this is rather promising.

Pink Lining’s Rose Plates Laptop Bag

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Finding a bag that is overly feminine can mean a great many things. For some it’s some bright pink monstrosity, for others it is something a little more understated.

Be it either chic with expensive leather work or something a little more cute, like this bag. It features a quirky design and there is no mistaking it as anything but girly. From the cute little hearts and bows to the pink zipper.

It is sold by Quirky Bags who isn’t going to make things easy by just saying what size laptops would fit. Instead they give the overall dimensions of the bag, which are 40 x 30 x 10cm. Those in the UK are in luck because this bag offers free shipping for you. It will cost you £100.00 or about $195.
