novero shows off victoria bluetooth jewelry

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

I’ve mentioned before that when it comes to gadgets and electronics, my wife and I are fundamentally different. I want something that looks cool, but primarily it has to work. I am the form follows function type. My wife, on the other hand, will gladly take an inferior product that looks better.

novero_victor_bluetooth_headset

Novero has a new Bluetooth range for women who want something that not only look good but that work well too. I have reviewed many Novero devices and they have performed well across the board, so these Victoria items should as well.

novero_victoria_bluetooth_headset_2

Basically, what you have here is a Bluetooth headset that looks like a necklace and comes in several styles. Presumably, they all have the same hardware inside.

novero_victoria_lapis_bluetooth_headset

Novero talks more about the looks than anything else. The line comes in Victoria Lapis, Pearl, Stripes, Wave, and a style called “Victor” for the guys.

novero_victoria_les-carats_bluetooth

And if you’re a really rich geek, you can get versions made from precious metals and jewels for as much as $120,000 (USD). Pricing for the normal versions is unknown.

oval iphone spotted in china

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

I can say with a high degree of certainty that this is not the new iPhone 4G.

oval_lady_iphone_clone

Nope, in fact, this strange oval phone is actually called the “Leady Apple.” I assume that the bad Chinese translation was supposed to say “Lady Apple”, given it’s girlish figure. The backside of these curvacious phones both have Apple logos and say “iPhone,” so they must be legit, right?

oval_lady_iphone_clone_3

From what I can tell, these phones have all the standard features you’ve come to expect from every cheap Chinese mobile these days, including built-in games, media playback, a digital camera and an FM radio. And thanks to a super shiny mirror-finish screen, it looks like something that could help you put your makeup on, too.

oval_leady_iphone_mirror

While I’m certain that Apple had nothing to do with these, I do find the fact that they managed to create a round display kind of slick. Although surfing the web and watching movies probably sucks with the corners cut off.

chicbuds headphones are brightly colored fo realz

Friday, March 19th, 2010

My wife uses her iPhone for listening to music a lot. She uses these cheap pink earphones when she listens that sound worse than the stock Apple earphones. The other day I got a really nice set of earphones for her from V-Moda that sound great. I handed them to her and told her they sound much better than what she has and her first response was those aren’t very cute. I’ll never understand women. It seems many care more for what something looks like than how it works.

A company called chicBuds has some appropriately girly headphones that come in colors that would make Stevie Wonder say man that’s bright. You can get the things in a pink color that is typically only seen in an emo girl’s hair. If the pink isn’t obnoxious enough for you, a multi-color set is also available.

I wonder if the multi-color set was painted at a Blue Man Group concert. Either color headphones are available for $29.95 (USD) and will work with any gadget using a 3.5mm headphone jack. The headphones have 44mm drivers and a frequency response of 5Hz to 20KHz, not that the specs matter, they are (debatably) cute after all.

k-touch x90+ mini twister cell phone looks cute, if not impractical

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

This little square box looks more like a makeup compact case than a mobile phone, but it’s definitely designed for making phone calls.

k_touch_x90_plus_square_mobile_phone

The compact K-Touch X90+ features an unusual twist-out keyboard that hides behind the screen of the square phone display. While it’s not totally decked out with features, the X90+ does offer built-in Bluetooth, dual SIM slots, dual cameras, and a touchscreen interface. The phone is available in three colors: black, white and a sort-of sparkly plum color that’s targeted at the ladies.

ktouch_x90_plus_mobile_phone_colors

Unfortunately, the phone only works on 900/1800MHz GSM bands, so it won’t work in North America. Oh well, it’s not like I was going to buy one anyhow. It should work for the rest of the world, though. I’m also pretty sure this isn’t the official K-Touch X90+, rather some sort of knock-off (the photos seem to have misspelled K-Touch as K-Tcouh). But it’s not like you ever heard of K-Touch anyhow, right? If you still want one, you can find them over at ChinaGrabber for about $139 (USD).

keybag: computer keyboards get new life as a purse

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

I barely even notice most purses, which is pretty simple because I’m a guy. But hey, this looks like a great purse to me!

keyboard purse

This makes the perfect Valentine’s gift for your girlfriend. On top of showing her how much of a geek you were for buying it, she gets this great purse that’s actually made out of 393 individual computer keys! The intricate purses shown here were designed by Portuguese artist Joao Sabino.

keybag_colors

Unfortunately, if you’re a spendthrift, the 130 € ($180 USD) pricetag might turn you off. Fortunately, for you cheapskates out there, Neatorama is selling a cheap copy of this bag for just $40 bucks.

hyundai boombox sports 12-inch screen, defiles memory of breakin 2: electric boogaloo

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

When I think of the word “boombox,” it usually conjures up visions of a massive luggable stereo, powered by 8 “D”-Cell batteries, riding along on the shoulder of some urban youth, while Boogaloo Shrimp does his best poppin’ and lockin’ to the rhythm. My, how times have changed. Here’s the 21st century version of the boom box.

hyundai_boombox_tv

At the front and center of Hyundai’s portable boombox is an oversized 12.1-inch LCD monitor. The spec sheet says the screen is 1280 x 800, but from the pictures I’ve seen, I’m not sure that’s really the case. It’s not like you’re going to be watching Hi-Def video on this thing anyhow. Unlike the classic ghetto blaster, these new compact stereos are all about the image, and not the sound. As a matter of fact, the speakers on this boombox have taken a serious backseat to the screen.

hyundai_boombox_tv_2

The Hyundai HY-1210 is all about watching movies and TV – not listening to your jamz. The portable has a built-in DVD player, and can play content in VCD, DVD, CD, CD-R, JPEG, MP3, MPEG-4, AVI formats. There’s even a Karaoke feature built-in so you can sing along. And if you don’t have any DVDs lying around, there are USB and SD/MMC/MS slots for watching media stored on digital memory devices. And there’s a VGA connector on the back for some reason too. I can officially say this is the first boombox EVER with a VGA port.

hyundai_boombox_3

Unfortunately, the TV tuner is analog, so you won’t be able to tune in stations in many parts of the world. At least you can listen to the FM radio when you’re not watching those Harajuku girls on screen. And with a 10-watt per channel stereo amp under the hood, audio actually isn’t that bad. One other technological advancement – this boombox only needs 8 “C”-Cell batteries – so we have made progress in the last 25 years or so. Maybe by 2035, we’ll have OLED boomboxes that run on 8 “AAA” batteries.

The Hyundai HY-1210 boombox can be yours over at ChinaGrabber for $219.99 (USD).

pink hd camcorder: because girls like digital video too

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

More and more gadgets are starting to turn up in colors besides basic black, white or grey. It was only a matter of time before the good old camcorder got a colorful makeover – in pink.

pink_hd_camcorder

This cheery pink digital camcorder is perfect for girls (and very confident men) who want to shoot video and are sick of the same old, same old. Just like the big boys, the pink HD cam can shoot 720p high-definition video at up to 30 fps in H.264 format. See, these girls are definitely stoked about those stats…

ping_hd_video_camera

Girl on right: “Hey, did you know my HD digi-cam can shoot digital video at 1280×720 resolution with a frame rate of 30 frames-per-second and encodes its data using a Quicktime H.264 codec?” Girl on left: “Shut up and take my picture already! Can’t you see I was busy listening to some tunes in Ogg Vorbis format!”

pink_hd_digital_video_camera

The pink cam has even got a pair of SD slots, each of which can hold 16GB of memory, so you can store up to 32GB of digital video if you load up both slots. In addition to shooting video, the pink cam will take still photos at up to 5-megapixel resolution. Video is displayed on the camera’s large 3-inch touchscreen display. And it’s pink – with ruby-colored sparklies!

Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but you can check back over on Chinavasion for more information. Think pink!
